Christians generally live a life based on a certain criteria, the scripture. The decisions we make no matter big or small it all needs to be reconciled back to the word. While under the criteria of a Christian worldwide view the meaning behind carpe diem is great and effective, it is not under the traditional criteria in which most live by. Most Christians live their day to day life through his word, learn from his teachings and devoting your live to him, so to a believer seizing the day means living each day striving to become more and more like Jesus Christ, pure and holy. In Ecclesiastes 2 it begins the passage with “Meaningless! Meaningless!” […] “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless!” Since the passage opened like that we could speculate that it’s trying to tell us that life is meaningless until we reach the end of the message. It goes on to explain that if you aren’t living a life through Christ then what do you live for? Living a holy life is critical in the end because every decision we make in life will be judged by God. To a non-believer seizing the day and doing any and everything that makes you happy could be an enjoyable lifestyle but not so much for a religious person.

For example you have Joe and Tom, Joe is religious while Tom is not. Both have a wife and kids and would both say the life they live makes them happy. Joe’s idea of seizing the day is making the most out of the day to become a better man for his family and set a positive example by living by the scripture and strengthening his relationship with the Lord. Tom’s idea on the other hand of seizing the day includes living like there’s no tomorrow, staying out all night, not missing any parties, cheating if the because the opportunity presented itself, etc. Living with that kind of mentality does not agree with The Lord’s teachings. I mentioned that every choice you make in life is judged, if you were to seize the opportunity to cheat on your wife because you have the opportunity and chances are nobody would find out then you are not living by the scripture.
